Dry skin is a problem that a lot of women and men face. Some skin care products that are created to combat dry skin can also make the problem worse. A good way to combat dry skin is to make the natural oils come out of your face.
Use Gentle Cleansers
Things You'll Need
- Sink
- Warm water
- Gentle facial soap
- Moisturizer
- Natural oils
Look for a gentle facial soap or facial cleanser in the personal hygiene aisle at your local drug store. Some popular brands are Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser, Ponds Cold Cream and Cetaphil Cleanser. Look for the words "gentle" and "dry skin" on the label when choosing a cleanser.
Wash your face using the gentle cleanser. You should wash your face only one or twice a day. Over-washing your face strips away the natural oils that your face produces and can lead to dry skin.
Use Moisturizers and Natural Oils
Use a little moisturizer after you wash your face. Facial moisturizers can coax your face to produce natural oil on its own. If you do not like most store-bought moisturizers or if they clog your pores and cause you to break out, then using a natural oil might be a better choice. Natural oils such as jojoba oil and coconut oil are very similar to the oil that your face naturally produces and can coax your face to produce more natural oil on its own.
Try not to strip your face of its natural oils. Using too many chemicals on the face including harsh cleansers, makeup, and extreme weather exposure can take away natural oils on the face and dry the skin. Be gentle with your face as much as you can and your face will produce more natural oil.
Tips
- Hard water can also be the cause of stripping your face of natural oils. Make sure you don't have hard water.
- Make sure you have a nutritious diet and get plenty of vitamin E.
- Be careful of which facial cleanser and moisturizer you choose. Not all gentle cleansers and moisturizers are the same, and some brands may make your face break out or become even dryer.
Dry skin is a problem that many people face. Using harsh chemicals and washing the face too often can aggravate dry skin or cause other skin problems such as acne and rashes. Gentle facial cleansers such as Neutrogena, Cetaphil, and Ponds should be used to gently wash the face and not strip natural oils from the skin. Gentle moisturizers and natural oils such as jojoba and coconut oil should also be used to moisturize.
